From
8:00 until 3:00 each day, I’m Mrs. Jones.
I read novels, do math problems, write stories, and discuss ideas with
twenty endearing nine and ten year olds.
I love this part of my life and am so grateful for the new opportunities
my job brings me every single day. When
I decided to start blogging, I considered the idea of doing a blog only about
teaching. After eight years, I certainly
have plenty of thoughts and experiences to share about the classroom, but I had
the nagging feeling that I was supposed to do more, write more, share more…
Teaching
is the kind of career that can suck you in.
You can easily spend all your time (and money) on your classroom and it’s
tempting to define your self-worth by success within its four walls. This is true of a lot of things in life; we
humans tend to have one-track minds. It’s
easy to lose ourselves in earthly distractions and forget the big picture of
who God created us to be. He gives us a
limited number of days to make our mark upon this earth and when it’s all said
and done, I want to be able to say I have truly lived, in all aspects of my
life.
So,
this blog isn’t just about Mrs. Jones.
It’s about Deana. I love to
teach, but I also love my husband, love my dog, love my friends and family,
love my church, love to travel, love to read, and above all, love the God Who has
blessed me in so many ways. Luke 12:48
says, “From everyone who has been given
much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much,
much more will be asked.” He has
given me so much, and I want to share some of that with you. Sometimes that will mean sharing a teaching
idea, sometimes it will mean sharing a funny story, sometimes it will mean
sharing a travel experience, and sometimes it will simply mean sharing what’s
on my heart. But in every case, I pray that in all of it we will remember what
it’s all about: only let us live…every day, in every aspect of our lives.
